Samsung Galaxy S4 to launch in India on April 26

Samsung will launch its flagship smartphone - Galaxy S4 - In India on April 26. The launch is part of the global rollout of the device. It will go on sale in other markets like the US and some European countries on the same day. 

For now, Samsung hasn't revealed any India price but the phone is expected to cost a little more than Rs 40,000. 

Samsung has two versions of Galaxy S4 - one powered by a Qualcomm S600 processor and another powered by Samsung's 8-core Exynos processor. In India, the Korean company is expected to launch the Exynos model. 

Galaxy S4, which is powered by Android operating system, is the successor to Galaxy S III. Samsung hopes to sell around 10 million units of its top smartphone within one month of launch. 

In India, the company is the top smartphone vendor. According to CyberMedia Research, Samsung had a share of 43% in Indian smartphone market at the end of 2012. 

Currently, Samsung and Apple are fighting a bitter war in Indian market. Last year Apple bolstered its operations in India. This year it has launched several aggressive schemes, including price cuts on older models of iPhones, to increase sale of its smartphones. Samsung has responded by introducing its own schemes, including cash back and zero interest EMIs for several models of Galaxy phones. 

The Korean company hopes Galaxy S4 will help it stay ahead of Apple as a new iPhone is not expected to launch anytime soon. 

When it hits the market, Galaxy S4 will also compete against HTC One, a phone that has garnered much praise among technology reviewers for its design, camera performance and a few unique features like Zoe. HTC One has been priced at Rs 42,990. It will be available in Indian market by the end of this month.

Samsung announces Galaxy Mega 6.3 and Mega 5.8

Samsung has expanded its Android smartphone lineup with the addition of Galaxy Mega series. The South Korean manufacturer has announced two phones under this range, namely Galaxy Mega 6.3 and Galaxy Mega 5.8. Both the smartphones run on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean), which is presently available on only a few devices.

Galaxy Mega 6.3, as the name suggests, features a 6.3-inch TFT HD display and is powered by a 1.7 GHz dual-core processor. This device has 1.5GB RAM and comes in 8 and 16GB memory options, with microSD card support up to 64GB. This phone can connect to the internet over 2G, 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi networks and transfer data via Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB 2.0 and NFC. The manufacturer has strapped an 8MP camera with LED flash on the back of the device, whereas a 1.9MP shooter on the front.

The smaller device in the line-up, Galaxy Mega 5.8, touts a 5.8-inch TFT touchscreen and runs on a 1.4GHz dual-core CPU, coupled with 1.5GB RAM. This phone is available with only 8GB internal storage and supports microSD cards with capacities up to 64GB. Connectivity features in the device include 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and microUSB 2.0. On the back of this smartphone is an 8MP shooter with LED flash, while a 1.9MP unit is used on the front panel.

There is no word on pricing, though the company says both devices are expected to launch in May.

"We are aware of a great potential in the bigger screen for extensive viewing multimedia, web browsing, and more," said JK Shin, CEO and head of IT & mobile business, Samsung Electronics. "We are excited to provide another choice to meet our consumers' varying lifestyles, all while maintaining the high-quality features of the award-winning Galaxy series."

Samsung announces Galaxy Star and Pocket Neo

South Korean manufacturer Samsung has announced two new budget smartphones -Galaxy Star and Galaxy Pocket Neo. Both the phones are powered by Android4.1 (Jelly Bean) with TouchWiz user interface and support dual-sim functionality.


The all-new Samsung Galaxy Star comes with a 3-inch TFT screen with 320x240p resolutionand is powered by a 1GHz processor. Powered by a 1,200mAh battery, this phone has 512MBRAM, 4GB internal storage and supportsmicroSD cards with capacity up to 32GB. It comes with a 2MP rear camera and has connectivity features like 2G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and microUSB. 

Galaxy Pocket Neo has a similar 3-inch TFT display with 320x240p resolution and runs on an 850MHz CPU. This phone also has 512MB RAM, 4GB onboard storage and microSD support up to 32GB. It can access the internet over 2G and Wi-Fi networks and transfer data via Bluetooth 4.0 and microUSB. The manufacturer has used a 2MP rear camera and 1,200mAh battery in this device as well. 

The company has so far not disclosed the pricing of the two smartphones.
