Enjoy Android apps on Windows

Soon many of you will have a chance to add applications from the most popular mobile operating system, Android, to the most popular desktop system, Windows and enjoy technological marvel, thanks to the Chipmaker AMD and Bluestacks.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and BlueStacks have teamed up to let consumers run Android apps on their AMD-powered PCs.

BlueStacks, creator of a Windows app that enables you to run Android apps on Windows, has joined forces with AMD to bring their cross-platform application to AMD-powered tablets and PCs.

The two companies have teamed up to bring 500,000 mobile Android apps to Windows PCsthrough the AMD AppZone Player starting Thursday.

AMD is also working with its partners to pre-load the the BlueStacks Android App Player on AMD-powered Windows 7 and 8 laptops, desktops, and tablets.

If you don't want to wait for a new PC you can download the master Android on Windows app, AMD AppZone Player.

Or, you can simply download an Android app from the AMD AppZone and it will automatically install the player in addition to the app.

The partnership between BlueStacks and AMD, which has invested in the software company, focuses on optimising Android apps for AMD-powered Windows devices.

While Intel-powered PCs can access Android apps through BlueStacks' original Windows software, the AppZone Player is optimized for AMD's GPU and APU technology.

BlueStacks is an AMD Ventures-backed software company that enables Android apps to run on notebooks, desktops, all-in-one PCs, slates and tablets.

Google Play hits 25 billion downloads

Google announced that its online store for media and applications Google Play has hit 25 billion downloads.

To celebrate the milestone, Google said it will discount a variety of popular apps which will be on sale for 25 cents apiece, reported Xinhua.

The company is also promoting special collections at special prices like 25 movies you must own, 25 banned books, 25 albums that changed the world and the store's 25 top selling magazines.

"We look forward to the next 25 billion," Google said in its official blog post.

Google Play was introduced in March when Google merged the Android Market and Google Music services. It is a digital distribution service, including a music player and an online store for music, movies, books, magazines and applications for Google's mobile system Android.

Since the launch of Android Market in 2008, it took 1,435 days for Google to reach the 25 billion downloads. Apple's App Store, Google's major competitor, hit the milestone in 1,334 days.

Google Play currently has 675,000 apps and game, while Apple's App Store plays host to 700,000.

Bad Piggies...Launching on Sep 27

Bad Piggies... From the makers of Angry Birds

http://ezyby.com

Angry Birds maker Rovio will be hoping to prove it's no one-hit wonder when it launches Bad Piggies on Thursday, just as players seem to be tiring of the game they've been addicted to for the past three years.
The new game will feature pigs which strike back at the birds who attacked them with slingshots in Angry Birds.
A hit on app stores would give the Finnish company a boost as it looks to a possible stock market flotation next year. Some analysts put its market value at between $6 billion and $9 billion, nearly on a par with another top Finnish tech name, phone maker Nokia Oyj.
Rovio was founded in 2003 and became a global phenomenon after it launched Angry Birds for Apple's iPhone in late 2009.
The highly-addictive game helped Rovio's sales jump 10-fold to $100 million last year, a fraction of the 38.7 billion euros ($50.2 billion) which Nokia chalked up.
It has remained at the top of gaming charts, with more than a billion downloads, and had 200 million monthly users at the end of 2011. That compares for instance with the 240 million attracted by offerings from US-based Zynga, such as the Facebook -based Farmville.
But there are signs Rovio is losing its momentum.
Amazing Alex, the first non-Angry Birds game in more than two years from Rovio, hit no. 1 on download charts in July but has since slumped to outside the top 50, while Angry Birds Space has dropped fast from the top-grossing lists.
In Bad Piggies, instead of shooting with a slingshot, players build vehicles that help the characters get the birds' eggs.
The company said it was hoping the new game would breathe additional life into its brand.
"We see Bad Piggies as a long-term brand-building exercise. In three years from now we want to see Angry Birds and Bad Piggies as strong vibrant brands out there," Petri Jarvilehto, head of gaming at Rovio, told Reuters in an interview.
Rovio is also expanding into merchandising, modelling its long-term strategy on Walt Disney by selling a range of stuffed animals and other toys, as well as branded playground equipment which then bolster branding for its games.

Windows 8 will be formally launched in October

Windows 8 will be formally launched in October

Microsoft is taking a big gamble over the next few months with Windows and Office, the two products responsible for most of its revenue and profit, according to Gartner. It is a risk that Microsoft must take to stay relevant in a world where mobile devices with new modern experiences are becoming the norm.

"When the PC dominated personal computing by providing a single device for messaging, internet access, gaming and productivity, Windows was a powerhouse for Microsoft," said Michael Silver, vice president and analyst at Gartner. "However, smartphones and tablets, led by the iPhone and iPad, have changed the way people work, making the PC just one of several devices people use. The PC is increasingly simply a peer with other devices."

With Windows 8, Microsoft is trying to address the excitement of the tablet market by adding tablet interface to Windows.

"Microsoft's approach is very different from Apple's and Google's, where phones and tablets have much more commonality than PCs and tablets," Silver said. "This plays to Microsoft's strength in PCs, leveraging it not only to enter the tablet market, but also to improve its share of the smartphone market."

Making radical changes to Windows poses a risk for Microsoft as organizations like to reduce technology risk by deploying mature, stable, well-supported products. Windows Vista, for example, never gained significant success in corporate environments, and its lack of success —Gartner estimates that just 8 per cent of PCs run by Gartner clients ran Vista at its peak — has reduced its useful life as third parties have already started cutting support for it. The bottom line is that IT leaders are questioning whether Windows 8 will suffer a similar fate.

Apple sells over 5 million iPhone 5s

Apple sells over 5 million iPhone 5s

Apple Inc sold out of its latest smartphone, with more than 5 million iPhone5s sold in the three days since it hit stores, the company said on Monday.

While sales were solid, analysts were concerned that Apple was unable to produce the new phone fast enough to meet demand.

The early total for the iPhone 5 topped sales of the iPhone 4S, which sold more than 4 million units in its first weekend after Apple introduced it in October 2011.

Expectations for new Apple products are so high that Wall Street appeared not to be wowed by the latest numbers. Investors sent shares of the stock down 1.4 per cent at $690.14 in mid-morning trade.

"It appears investors were disappointed with the slowdown in growth in the first weekend," said BTIG analyst Walter Piecyk.

Apple said while the majority of iPhone 5 pre-orders have been shipped to customers, many were scheduled to go out in October.

The world's most valuable technology company is being closely watched for any supplier problems that may slow down the smartphone production.

"We believe that sales could have potentially been much higher if not for supply constraints," William Power, an analyst with Baird Equity Research, wrote in a note.

He forecast Apple selling 8 million to 10 million units in the fiscal fourth quarter ending in September.

One of Apple's key suppliers for screens, Sharp Corp, is struggling with high costs and scrambling to raise funds to pay debt.

Riots forces Chinese plant shutdown

Taiwan's Foxconn Technology Group, which assembles iPhones, closed a plant in China on Monday after about 2,000 workers were involved in a brawl in a company dormitory. It was not clear how long the shutdown would last.

Additionally, Apple is facing stiff competition from smartphones that run on Google Inc'sAndroid software, which has become the most-used mobile operating system in the world. Apple's key supplier as well as rival, Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, has taken the lead in smartphone sales.

The iPhone 5 has been one of Apple's most aggressive international rollouts to date. The phone will be available 31 countries on Sept. 28 and in more than 100 countries by the end of the year.

"Expectations for Apple are always white hot," said Colin Gillis, a research analyst with BGC. "It's not just enough for them to break records but to smash them."

Apple signalled last week that pre-orders outstripped initial supply and that many phones would not be available until October.

The iPhone is Apple's highest-margin product and accounts for half of its annual revenues.

On Friday, fans lined up at stores in cities around the world to get their hands on the new phone, which is thinner and lighter and has a bigger screen.

Touch-enabled Ultrabooks to launch by 2013

Touch-enabled Ultrabooks to launch by 2013: Intel

The world's largest semiconductor firm Intel will attempt to revolutionize computing in the next couple of years with increased impetus on "user experience."

Sanjay Vora, General Manager, Strategic Planning, PC Client Group, Intel Corp said "voice, touch and gesture are going to change the way users will interact with the PC."

Speaking on 'The future of computing', at 'Conversations' - the first ever Annual One Intel Summit in New Delhi on Friday, Vora said "It is not about devices anymore but about the user experience."

"In the past the focus was on the silicon...making it faster...with new capabilities," Vora noted while adding that Intel was shifting its focus from creating "amazing silicon" to providing a compelling "user experience".

He said "usage models were changing," while noting that "80% of consumers would prefer touch on the device if given a choice."

Vora said that this had prompted Intel to focus on 13" panels, invest in jump start factories and enable 3.5 times forecasting demand.

He said the market was soon "going to increasingly see touch-enabled ultrabooks," and revealed that over 140 designs in ultrabooks would be hitting the market next year. He told TOI that Intel was attempting to address the high pricepoint issue that is impeding ultrabook sales, from the supply chain side.

Vora also said that with convergence being witnessed between smartphones, tablets and ultrabooks and notebooks, there would be greater focus on merged devices.

He announced that this has led to the development of the 'ultrabook convertible' -- that will soon be released in three forms- tablet, flip and detachable -- and adaptive All-In-One PCs which will turn from single user PCs to family devices.

Speaking about the upcoming Windows 8 operating system, Vora said Intel was "working withMicrosoft to create an amazing touch experience."

He also revealed Intel was collaborating with Nuance on bringing voice capabilities such as voice commands and "voice searches on the web" to the PC.

Touching upon "perceptual computing" Vora revealed that "wireless charging" was another aspect Intel was focusing on. "We truly want to get to a point where there are no wires of any kind," he said.

With wireless charging, users would be able to charge device such as mobile phones by placing them next to an ultrabook or an All-In-One PC, he noted.

Pre-booking started for Samsung Galaxy Note II

Samsung Galaxy Note II Booking started in ezyby.com for free....

Samsung  has started taking pre-orders for the Galaxy Note II in India on its official e-store. Buyers are required to pay a sum of Rs 5,000 in advance to book the phablet, while the rest has to be paid within fifteen days of official launch of the device in the country. Samsung has not revealed the cost of the Galaxy Note II in the country as of now.

Galaxy Note II will be shipped on first-come-first-serve basis, depending on the timing for completing the full payment. The South Korean manufacturer will ship a free desktop dock with the Galaxy Note II for free to those who pre-order the device early. Only those who make full payment within the first three days of the launch of the phablet will be awarded the free desktop dock.

Those users who pre-order the device have to make full payment for the Galaxy Note within 15 days of launch, otherwise the booking will be cancelled and the sum of Rs 5,000 will not be refunded. Samsung will send an email to all those who made pre-orders stating the official launch of the device.

Samsung had also employed a similar pre-booking strategy for Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet and Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone in India.

The original Samsung Galaxy Note was a huge success for the company as it sold 10 million units worldwide since launch. This came as a surprise to many as its success was not a surety due to its size, as the similarly-sized Dell Streak had failed in the market.

The all-new Samsung Galaxy Note II features a 5.55-inch HD SuperAMOLED touchscreen and runs Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), the latest edition of Google's mobile operating system. It is compatible with the S Pen, a stylus, and comes with pre-installed apps like Air View, Popup Note and Popup Play. The device is powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core processor with 2GB RAM and comes with 16GB of internal storage, with support for microSD card of up to 64GB capacity.

Samsung find that all employees at its manufacturer's factory are of legal working age

fter Samsung was criticized last month for partnering with an electronics manufacturer that allegedly employed child workers, it announced today that all employees at the manufacturing factory are of a legal working age.
"Samsung holds itself and its supplier companies to the highest standards," Samsung said in a statement. "We have a zero tolerance policy on child labor violations and are therefore conducting field audits to ensure all our facilities in China, whether supplier facilities or fully-owned facilities, are compliant with applicable labor laws and Samsung's labor and employment right policies."
When watchdog group China Labor Watch released a report in August that said Samsung's partner, HEG Electronics, employed at least seven children under the age of 16, the tech company sent a team of investigators to China to determine whether the supplier was guilty of child labor abuses.
The investigators found that some student workers and interns were under 18 but older than 16, which means their employment is legal in China. Apparently, the investigators didn't find anyone under the age of 16. The investigators did discover that some employees worked overtime "beyond local regulations," were fined for being late, and did not have access to medical clinics.
HEG assembles Samsung DVD players and mobile phones and according to the report by China Labor Watch child labor was prevalent in its factory and children face the "same harsh conditions" as adults but are paid less. The report also said that all 2,000 employees were obliged to work between 11 and 13 hours per day and are only given a 40-minute break to eat.
China Labor Watch published a similar report on Apple's iPad and iPhone manufacturer, Foxconn. The watchdog accused of Foxconn of creating abysmal labor standards, leading several workers committed suicide. These accusations led to Apple bringing in the Fair Labor Association earlier this year to audit the manufacturer's facilities. The FLA found a host of issues with working conditions, including excess overtime and low wages. Foxconn agreed with the FLA to reduce hours and increase pay for its employees.
Samsung's investigators will continue to survey all of the 105 Chinese companies that solely manufacture its products throughout September. The company also plans to instate new guidelines and stricter codes of conduct for its manufacturers.
"Samsung has demanded that HEG immediately improve its working conditions," the company said in the statement. "If HEG fails to meet Samsung's zero tolerance policy on child labor, the contract will be immediately severed."

The Tough Guy from ADATA

http://www.ezyby.com

The ADATA DashDrive Durable HD710 Portable HDD is true to its name: It’s both easy to carry and can withstand the beatings of daily wear and tear, and then some. It has an attractive design and a very reasonable price point.

Design

The drive measure 5.2 inches by 3.9 inches by 0.85 inch, and it weighs just less than half a pound. It’s a fairly slim drive with a soft-touch rubberized exterior that covers about 75 percent of the drive. The rest exposes the hard plastic that the company claims is shockproof and waterproof. It comes in blue and black, yellow and black, or all black.
There is a blue LED indicator that illuminates when the drive is plugged into the computer and flashes when files are being transferred. The light is actually hidden beneath the plastic encasement, but it shines bright enough for you to see it through this.

Capacity

The drives come in 500GB, 750GB and 1TB capacities. The size that you need will depend on the type of media that you are collecting. In general, it’s always better to go a little larger than you might think you need. It’s much cheaper to bump up to the next level than it is to purchase an additional drive down the road. And since this drive is USB 3.0 capable, you won’t need to upgrade for a long time.
For more on where to buy a portable hard drive, click here.
 The Proof
ADATA says the DashDrive Durable HD710 is shockproof and waterproof, so naturally these needed to be tested. To test the shockproof capabilities, I dropped it from a height of about 4 feet onto a hardwood floor. When I plugged the drive in, my computer registered it immediately and my files were accessible. Of course, this is not exactly the same precision as when undergoing the Military MIL-STD-810G 516.5 drop test, as ADATA says the HD710 has, but I think it was still a good try. If nothing else, the drive would certainly survive a fall from your desk or kitchen countertop.
To test the waterproof promise, I did as I typically do for such things: I loaded it with priceless baby photos and dunked the drive in water. ADATA says it's waterproof in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. I put it in a plastic container with about 6 inches of water, so it was completely covered on all four sides, and left it in there for exactly 30 minutes. I then let it dry for about four hours before plugging it into my computer.
The result: It worked! Again! My computer recognized it immediately, the blue indicator light illuminated and flickered as it was supposed to, and I could access my un-damaged baby photos, just as promised.
